About The Event
Brisbane pianist Wil Sargisson hails from Napier, New Zealand, where he was raised on a diet of Boogie Woogie, New Orleans R&B, and Harlem stride piano, before turning his attention to the playing of Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum in his late teens. Although mostly found in band situations these days, he still considers solo piano his forte. In his debut performance at Ruby Jazz Club, he'll be taking the audience on a tour of what he calls "vintage jazz piano," dusting off pieces by largely-ignored early giants such as James P. Johnson, Jelly Roll Morton, Albert Ammons, and Fats Waller. We do not take bookings for our Saturday night shows. Entry is free, but if you enjoy the show, feel free to tip the musicians. Tasty bites are available, and the bar features local and international wines, classic cocktails, fine spirits, and a deep bourbon collection worthy of New Orleans.
