ABOUT THE CLUB
The Ruby Jazz Club - Brisbane's Finest Live Music Venue
The Story of the Club.
The Ruby Jazz Club was born from the vision of its owner, Meredith Brothers, who has had a lifelong love of music. Meredith began piano lessons at the age of five and, over the years, picked up the double bass, saxophone, clarinet, and guitar along the way. For most of her life, however, music remained a passion on the side, as Meredith worked as a veterinarian for nearly three decades. In 2020, she sold her veterinary practice and finally took the leap to follow her long-held dream of focusing on music and jazz. Meredith returned to university at the Jazz Music Institute (JMI) in Brisbane, completing a Bachelor of Jazz Music with a major in piano performance. On Graduation, she was honoured to receive the Brad Rogers Memorial Academic Award for the highest GPA — a meaningful milestone as both a mature-age student and a woman in a field where females are still underrepresented. It was during her studies that the idea for the jazz club truly took shape, inspired by a desire to see more live jazz in Brisbane for both musicians and audiences alike. Meredith also formed the Larman and Brothers Quintet (pictured), performing around Brisbane in various line-ups. After four years of planning and renovations, this beautiful 1920s art deco cocktail and dining venue has finally come to life — a true labour of love, and one she hopes you’ll enjoy as much as she does.
